The phenomenon of tourism and its accompanying industry in Croatia have almost a mythical status – from the popular understanding of tourism as the last, but unquestionable line of defence against the total collapse of the economy to the fundamental influence of tourism on the urban dynamics and identity of this region, especially of the Adriatic coast. Tourism was truly one of the main driving forces of urbanization and modernization of the coast with all the positive and negative sides of these processes.
